To: Bear Lakers, With Love: Katie Setzer
By Bear Lake Staff / December 22, 2014
Dear Bear Lakers,
It’s Katie here. As many of you know, tomorrow will be my last day here at Bear Lake Reserve! My boyfriend, Drew (who you may remember from working at the Lake Club over the last two summers), and I have decided to relocate to Charleston, South Carolina. While we are both in love with the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, we have lived in the region for 25 years and are ready for a new adventure! I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my time at Bear Lake Reserve, and to thank all of the wonderful people I have met for the memorable time here.
Bear Lake has always held a special place in my heart – I have been visiting the cabin that my grandparents own across the lake since I was born! For as long as I can remember, any time that I have needed to think of my “happy place”, the dock at my grandparent’s cabin has been it. It has been the location of countless family memories – as has Bear Lake. It is where almost my entire family learned to water ski, and where we relaxed all day until Grandma said it was dinner time. It is where my cousins became my friends and shoulders to lean on, and my aunts and uncles became mentors. My parents, brother and sister turned into the best friends I will ever have through our time here. Bear Lake made us strong – and has kept us close. I cannot put into words how much I appreciate Bear Lake, and what spending time here has done for me!
I joined the Bear Lake Reserve team as Marketing Director in May of 2013. The opportunity to help this community grow has meant the world to me – all I want is for other families to see how easily a home here can turn into their “happy place”. I believe that the memories you can make in an area like this are memories that will change you forever. It is a place that you will miss as soon as you shut your front door to leave. You begin to slow down a little – you notice yourself leaving your cell phone at home when you leave for an adventure on property or on the lake. You start to realize what takes your breath away and you focus on the moments that matter each day. Your neighbors become friends, and your friends become family.
The people that I have met on my Bear Lake Reserve adventure have been nothing short of amazing. I love you all!! You have shown me such kindness and support during my time here. I feel like I have made so many new friends along the way. Our conversations have been so meaningful, and I can see how many of you truly care about the place we call home! I cannot thank you all enough for the love and encouragement that you have offered during my transitions in and out of BLR. You will forever hold such a special place in my heart, and for that I am thankful.
As for my coworkers – I do not have enough words to describe how happy I am to have met and worked with you. You aren’t just my coworkers – but some of my dearest friends! I admire and appreciate everything that you have done for me and for what you do for this community every single day. You are considered family by many people here – including me. Thank you for the laughs, for the cohesiveness, and for making this such a wonderful experience. I will miss you all! To the wonderful Marlin Atlantis Group & BlueStar teams: Thank you. You are inspiring in so many ways, and I have learned so much from you. Getting to know all of you has been wonderful, and I promise I will stay in touch!
As I leave, April Hicks will be taking my position – someone who I have full confidence will take care of this beautiful community. April has my personal email address and cell phone number – if you need it for any reason at all please feel free to reach out to her at the Greeter’s Cottage or April@BearLakeReserve.com. With that being said – I hope that anyone who is reading this and finds themselves in Charleston one day will give me a call. Whether you are staying for a few days and need a spare room to relax in while you aren’t on the beach or you are passing through and can meet for dinner – please keep in touch!
With a heart full of love,
