An excerpt from an essay written by seventeen year old daughter of an owner writing her innermost feelings about Bear Lake. She has spent seven summers here and has beautiful memories. It’s nice to know Bear Lake can have this much meaning to a child throughout the years.
My sanctuary, my safe haven; the still air brings a sense of calming over me. The North Carolina Mountains give me a feeling of serenity as I twist and turn with the road driving up to our house. The sense of urgency to awake in order to complete everything on that day’s list is washed away as I see the sun rising over the mountains. I am not at home, I have no responsibilities, no deadlines, and no swim meets to prepare for. The only task at hand is to spend time with those I love, my family. The cool breeze brings the smell of dogwood blooms to my nose rejuvenating my senses. The peaceful sound of water falling in the distance washes away my stress and I begin to unwind. The buzzes of the hummingbirds’ wings revive my spirits. As the days pass I become a new person. I am renewed and my mental health is purified. This state of peace and refuge, is only brought by the crisp mountain air of North Carolina.
I wanted to tell you how nice The Bear looks and how much we enjoyed our stay a few days ago. We look forward to being back for about 6 weeks starting mid-June. You, Brandon and your crew have done a great job of getting everything ready for the season. The refurbished signs make the drive in seem welcoming and easy. John tells me the golf course is in great shape and that Dick is a real asset for the Bear. The refinished pool looks great and I know all are enjoying it! The Lake Club is in great shape and the staff is helpful, courteous and FRIENDLY. In short, we are so happy to be a part of Bear Lake and thank you and your staff for making it such a special place. Thanks for all the extras you do.

Just want to tell you that we thought the weekend was a huge success and it felt so warm and friendly here at Bear Lake! Thank you for having the owners’ reception at the Greeters Cottage; what a great way to see who was here, renew previous acquaintances and get to meet some new friends! The food, service and ambience at the Lake Club were outstanding! It was also so neat to see the “younger generation” and their kids and babies at the pools. Truly, this is becoming a community. Please extend our congratulations on a job well done to all of our staff; we know that everyone giving their best contributed to the success of the whole weekend.
